Prologue - Good Boys Don't Bite
By L.A. Barron
Even though Rowdy Dawes has been a vampire for twelve years, this is the first time she’s ever seen a dead human body.
At first, she can’t really tell that the lump of bloated flesh and matted, wine-stained hair is a person. But then, she catches sight of a hand. The back of it is badly bruised, the fingers splayed out at odd angles. At the ends of each finger, a dab of pink glitter polish on jagged fragments of fingernails.
The water kisses her ankles. It’s a cool reminder of what she, Benny, and Jackie were about to do.
“Rowdy.” Benny says her name as if it’s a secret. “Why is she wearing your shirt?”
