Second books in a series are difficult to write. In the first book, the world and the characters are new and exciting. I can craft them exactly how I want, but in the second book, there are rules. Characters can’t completely change their personalities, and the world must remain consistent. I’ve always struggled with second books, but I was excited to write this one because I was interested in exploring Zleyval. As Mara discovered Zleyval, I did too. She’s a little wary at first, and she’s right to be because even in such a perfect place, there’s always darkness beneath the surface. But we’ll get to that in book three...
