Chapter 23 - Life
By Claire Highton-Stevenson
Lucy lay stretched out on the sofa. Her long legs meant that her feet hung over the arm, but she was comfortable nonetheless.
“Are you going to lie there all day?” Nicole asked as she came into view carrying a pile of folded up, clean washing.
Lucy looked up, grinning. “I might.”
“Hmm. Well I might join you then.” Nicole grinned and dumped the clothing into the armchair. She turned quickly and then with one knee at a time, straddled Lucy’s waist before leaning forward to capture Lucy’s lips.
The kiss deepened as Lucy sunk further into the couch with Nicole lying almost completely on top of her as they made out like horny teenagers.
“Mama!” Wynter’s voice called out from another room.
Nicole stopped kissing Lucy and flopped down, her head burrowed into her neck. “Every time.” Lucy chuckled. “I think he has some kind of super hearing. As soon as my tongue enters your mouth,” she complained while clambering up and off of her wife.
“Why don’t I see to him?” Lucy said, still laughing. It was true, Wynter did seem to have some innate notion of when his parents were getting it on.
“No, you stay there, I’ll go,” Nicole insisted. “Because, I am coming back.”
Taking the opportunity to check her phone. Lucy smiled at the list of messages.
Storm: Checked with Ms. Arnold and it’s okay for extra tickets if Shelly and Cam want to come.
She quickly texted back.
Mama: I’ll ask, but don’t get your hopes up, they will probably be in LA by then.
Next was a text from Rita.
Bossy: Don’t forget that Nicole isn’t working this weekend, so if you want the kids to stay with me, that’s fine.
Lucy smiled at Rita’s roundabout way of asking if she could babysit because she just loved doing it. The kids loved her too; it was something Lucy and Nicole had taken advantage of often.
Lucy: Suits me. I’ll drop them off Saturday evening around 6.
The last text was from Cam.
Cam Thomas: Hey, Michelle is going to be sleeping later. Want to go grab a drink with me? No problem if you’re already busy.
Lucy: Let me speak to Nicole, but I should be able to make a couple of drinks. Where were you thinking?
She put the phone down just in time to see Nicole standing in front of her with Wynter in her arms, all snuggled in and cozy. Lucy moved her legs and made room for Nicole to sit down between them.
“Somebody is awake and pretending not to be,” she whispered to Lucy.
“I see. Then he isn’t going to notice the Tickle Monster sneaking up,” she said, wiggling her fingers towards him.
He shrieked and giggled. “Mama, no tickle.”
“No tickle? No tickle, no fun!” Lucy cried out and made a quick grab for him, tickling his ribs as he giggled and squirmed.
“Momo, Momo, helps me. Kiss.”
“Okay little man, Momo will save you.” Nicole grabbed him back, leaned in and kissed the Tickle Monster.
“Fank oo MoMo.” He sighed and fell back against Nicole’s chest.
“Hey, is it okay if I pop into town with Cam later for a drink?” Lucy said, remembering the text.
There was a time in Nicole’s life when that kind of request would have sent a shudder of fear down her spine. Though her ex-husband would never have bothered to ask; he would just roll home drunk and beat the crap out of her.
“Yes, you don’t need to ask.”
“I do; you might have had other plans for me.” Lucy winked.
“Well, I still might, but they can wait until you get home. Just please…”
“I won’t get drunk,” Lucy reassured and kissed her quickly again. “I think Cam just wants to talk. I can do that just as well over wine or water.”
“That wasn’t what I was going to say…” Nicole giggled. “I like it when you’re a little tipsy. You get all handsy.”
“I do not...okay, I might get a little horny.”
“Uh huh, keep that in mind for later, but what I was going to say was, please don’t rush home. It’s good for you to go out sometimes with someone other than me.”
Lucy smiled. “I love you, you know that, right?”
“Kinda do, but doesn’t hurt to hear it again.”
